Our team promotes your news, events and initiatives. We provide news story development — including research, interviews and writing — and share that news through a host of platforms, from website and campus publications to social media. We respond to media queries, student project requests and serve as liaisons to the central University Communications Division. We also coordinate responses to public records requests, particularly those with a media component.

Media Relations

Let us know when you’re doing something interesting or if you have news to share. Please also refer all media requests to our office to manage. If you’re not sure who to contact, please call 919-962-6288. When we receive a query from the media, or need information for a communications project, we may reach out to you. Your prompt reply is very much appreciated as we try to maintain good relationships with the media and keep our news up to date. Loop us in on all correspondence with media or media relations staff for the main campus communications team. We keep track of Division appearances in the media.

News Story Development

Any content should be provided in clean and final draft form in a Word document. Include any images or suggestions for images you would like to be featured. A communications staff member will reach out to you for details but providing more information up front will allow us to better plan for your work.

Timelines for Production

  • News Stories/Press Releases (400 to 600 words): one to three weeks
  • Media Relations response: ASAP or depending on news deadline
