Why are messages missing from my Outlook inbox?
(Display Larger Version)

One of the advantages of Office 365 is that new features are added by Microsoft throughout the year. This ensures that you have the most up-to-date version and features. Most of the time these new features and capabilities don’t cause much confusion. Occasionally, they may need some explanation.

There is a change that is propagating to all Office 365 mailboxes called “Focused Inbox.” This new feature sorts your inbox messages into two tabs to help you find your most important messages:

  • Focused (individuals, frequent contacts)
  • Other (newsletters, mass distribution)

This Focused Inbox is set as the default, so when it goes live in your mailbox Outlook will automatically move any email sent from a distribution mailbox onto the Other tab. If you don’t realize this has happened, you may miss some important incoming messages.

This feature is very easy to navigate or optionally to turn off if you don’t like it.

Note that not everyone has this feature yet, but it will show up soon.

Keep checking the FA-IT Current Projects page for more answers to your Office 365 questions.
