What is your role in the Service Center of Excellence?
I am an IT manager with the Finance and Operations IT team. Through this role, I provide technical support, maintenance and troubleshooting for UNC Police and 911 systems. I coordinate with other colleagues to ensure that the IT systems that I support align with state and federal guidelines.
What did you do before you came to the SCE?
I worked with the city of Raleigh at its main help desk. This role allowed me to gain valuable experiences, and I was able to visit departments across the city and experiment with a wide variety of technology. I then transitioned to the police department’s IT team, managing service and storage infrastructure. It allowed me to participate in modernizing their technology, migrating the computer infrastructure to a new data center and implementing the structure of the new body camera system and putting that system to use.
What are you looking forward to doing or learning in your new role?
What attracted me to this position in the Finance and Operations division was their motto, “We make Carolina go.” The benefit of this position was that it was still in public safety, which allowed me to carry over my knowledge from my previous position and continue in that field. And now that I’m working at the University, I’m glad to be part of a team that continues to support the next generation of Tar Heels.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I like doing DIY projects around the house and being very hands-on in my free time. I like completing projects, after watching many YouTube videos of course, and taking trips to multiple home improvement stores. I also enjoy gardening; my wife is a gardener, so I help her in our garden and simply enjoy the fruits of our labor.
What is something people probably wouldn’t know about you or another fun item you’d like to share?
I really like to decorate our house for the holidays, starting with Halloween in October, followed by Thanksgiving and Christmas. Seeing all the neighbors’ reactions to our home is definitely a highlight.
