Michael Krier
Michael Krier, training specialist, SCE Continuous Improvement, Staff Development and Engagement

What is your role in the Service Center of Excellence?
I am a finance training specialist. I instruct new employees or transitioning employees on UNC finance and how to utilize and navigate ConnectCarolina.

What did you do before you came to the SCE?
For the decade prior, I taught band for grades six through eight. I taught them everything from how to put the instrument together to playing real works of music. During that time, I became involved in staff development and technologies always looking for the next tool to add to my teaching toolbox and share it with my colleagues.

What is your favorite part of working at SCE?
The work environment and the great attitudes of the employees I have met. Also, being able to walk to Armadillo Grill.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I do a lot in my free time. On the side I build basic websites for people’s hobbies or new ventures. I work in my garage a lot on the weekends building, staining, painting things I build, or restoring my home or other people’s homes. Of course, I practice my instruments.

What is something people probably wouldn’t know about you, or another fun item you’d like to share?
In 2005, I got the chance to work with and perform with Ed Shaughnessy from the band of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
