Bianca FankhauserWhat is your role in the Service Center of Excellence?
I am an HR Specialist, and I do a variety of tasks, including assisting with position descriptions, conducting new hire transactions and posting jobs. Additionally, I am involved in TIM Administration for Transportation and Parking and UNC Police. I am also involved in the SCE Health and Wellness, Sustainability and Employee Recognition Committees.

What did you do before you came to the SCE?
I worked as an HR assistant for a private security company in Knoxville, Tenn. While I was there, I completed my Master of Science in Human Resource Management at the University of Tennessee. Go Vols!

What is your favorite part of working at SCE?
My favorite part is the incredibly collaborative atmosphere. I tend to ask a lot of questions, so I love having a huge team as a reference. I’m also very fond of the bike path behind the office. It’s perfect for a quick walk!

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love to go backpacking in the Smoky Mountain National Park, so my husband and I try to go a few weekends each year. I just moved to North Carolina this year, so I also enjoy going around neighboring cities and familiarizing myself with the local breweries, restaurants and shops. Send me your suggestions!

What is something people probably wouldn’t know about you, or another fun item you’d like to share?
Most people at the SCE probably don’t know that I am a dual citizen of the U.S. and Switzerland. My dad moved to the U.S. in the 80s, but all my paternal family still resides in Switzerland, so I make it a point to visit my relatives about every two years. Naturally, Swiss fondue is my absolute favorite food, and I am learning how to make cheese. If my first batch goes well, I will definitely make it a hobby.
