Associate Vice Chancellor for Real Estate Operations Gordon Merklein presented on the University’s Campus Master Plan at the Dec. 5 Friends of the Downtown meeting. The presentation provided an overview of the plan’s guiding concepts with a focus on Franklin Street and Porthole Alley.
One objective of the Campus Master Plan is to create a hub in the Porthole Alley area along Franklin Street. Through strategic renovation and renewal, Porthole Alley would become a gateway to campus, strengthen the physical connection between downtown Chapel Hill and campus, and support downtown economic development.
The University will hold community engagement sessions to get feedback on the future of Porthole Alley in early 2020.
