Meet SCE front desk administrative assistants Sydney Gallek and David Romero. They are work-study students with busy other lives as UNC undergrads. Take a moment to introduce yourself to these amazing young Tar Heels.

What year of school are you in and what is your major?

I am a junior studying Global Studies (specifically, international politics, nation-states, and social movements).

How did you choose UNC?

I moved to North Carolina when I was 16, and UNC seemed like the obvious choice! It’s a great school with a great price for in-state students.

What is your favorite thing about being at UNC?

My favorite thing about being at UNC is the array of people I have met in the last two years!

Assuming you have some free time away from your studies, what do you do in that spare time?

I volunteer for women’s rights organizations and make music with my friends. I love to stay home and watch Netflix with Psyche, my cat!

Where is your home, other than Chapel Hill?

Cleveland, Ohio. (Go Browns!)

What is something you would like the staff (or anyone) to know about you, your interests and your hopes and dreams?

I lived in Poland for a year when I was 17 and learned to speak conversational Polish. I have been to four continents so far and want to go to every continent in my lifetime!

What year of school are you in and what is your major?

I am a Sophomore majoring in psychology and minoring in computer science.

How did you choose UNC?

It was the best school in NC, and I wanted to do something in a STEM field. (I originally came in wanting to major in Chemistry.)

What is your favorite thing about being at UNC?

The short walk from my dorm to all the restaurants on Franklin Street. My favorites are Bonchon, Heavenly Buffaloes and Mellow Mushroom!

Assuming you have some free time away from your studies, what do you do in that spare time?

I’m part of the UNC Esports club, which is a group dedicated to running events for the video game community, where I am the head of Rainbow Six Siege (an FPS tactical shooter). I’m also the captain of our Collegiate Siege team that goes against other colleges, like ECU (who we beat). Besides video games, you can find me trying new restaurants around Franklin or sleeping in my dorm.

Where is your home, other than Chapel Hill?

My home is in Clayton, Johnston County, NC.

What is something you would like the staff (or anyone) to know about you, your interests, and your hopes and dreams?

I hope to contribute to society by becoming a psychologist/therapist, helping counsel people, and maybe even helping run other esports clubs/teams around the country.
