Do you really need that file from 2005? If not, delete it!

North Carolina law and UNC’s Records Retention and Disposal Policy require that employees discard information that is no longer relevant to the operation of the University. Once retention policy requirements are met, feel free to purge the information. Files that include sensitive information, like SSNs, and performance reviews should also be protected from accidental disclosure. One of the easiest ways to do this is to delete the related files once they are no longer needed.

Think about records management as part of your departmental spring cleaning routine and schedule a time to discuss records retention with your supervisor or department head.
