This week, March 4-10, is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in North Carolina. The UNC-Chapel Hill Campus Safety and Risk Management department encourages the campus community to join this statewide severe weather safety campaign by applying the three keys to severe weather safety:

  • Know your risk
  • Pledge to prepare and take action
  • Be an example

Take a moment to view the daily public information statements on various severe weather topics at alertcarolina.unc.edu.

The annual statewide tornado drill will be conducted on Wednesday, March 7 at 9:30 a.m.  Though participation is voluntary, this is a great opportunity to review emergency procedures for your building.

“We can’t always predict, but we can prepare,” says Darrell Jeter, director of Emergency Management and Planning. “Each of us need to be aware of the severe weather that may impact campus, have a means to be alerted and know what actions to take when they occur. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to register for Alert Carolina emergency text notifications if you haven’t already.  The time to prepare is now.”
