Christine ShiaWhat is your role in the Service Center of Excellence?
I am a Communications Specialist who works mostly with the Finance Department, updating their website news posts as well as working with clients on memos and presentations.

What did you do before you came to the SCE?
I worked with TEACCH Autism Center, which was completely awesome. I supervised an autistic person who taught me so much—he was really fun and incredibly, incredibly brilliant. We got along very well and shared a love for the Simpsons.

What is your favorite part of working at SCE?
I like the creative and can-do energy of an agency-style set up, and the chance to have a variety of clients and needs. Also, our levitating desks and nearby RISE morning donuts are major perks.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I write and love any murder mystery television program that has been made. Even the really, really bad ones (All 100+ episodes of “Murder, She Wrote!” which truly defined the art of man makeup in the 80s). And I love playing with my two cats, Scooby and Rumor.

What is something people probably wouldn’t know about you, or another fun item you’d like to share?
Around 2002, to reduce my rent, I lived and worked on an aviary farm that had more than 600 exotic birds: peacocks, Rosettas, African gray, cockatoos, chickens, guinea hens, budgies and cockatiels. Each day it took me three hours to feed all of the birds and three hours at night to shut everything down. It was all very Tippi Hedren and I still get uneasy walking near playgrounds with perching crows.
