Sam Veraldi

What is your role in the Service Center of Excellence?

I am responsible for our Financial Reporting, Budgeting, and Analysis unit. Our team provides reporting, budgeting, and analysis for the business side of the University and for senior finance and administration. Our clients include Chancellor Folt, F&A Vice Chancellor Matt Fajack and Senior Associate Vice Chancellor Dwayne Pinkney and his direct reports, as well as F&A’s associate vice chancellors and their departments.

What did you do before you came to the SCE?

I have previously served in a variety of senior finance roles at IBM, GE, and Duke University. I was a faculty member who taught finance at Duke University for 20 years. Before that, I served in the the Navy for ten years as an intelligence officer, where I did mission planning.

Why are you excited about working with the SCE?

Being part of change in any organization is exciting. Change is never easy, but moving to the service center model has been a particularly challenging task. To be a part of this senior management team — especially the opportunity be a part of our finance team led by Carly — and working with our reporting team has been truly rewarding. I look forward to continued work with our reporting team in its efforts to provide a high level of service to our valuable customers:  growing our skill sets and becoming more proficient in how we create our work products.  I hope we can continue to challenge each other professionally to become better at what we do – it’s a great opportunity!

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy spending time with my wife and two children, training for triathlons, and building and maintaining things at our home.

What is something people probably wouldn’t know about you?

I played second base in the movie Bull Durham.
